Lenovo Group Limited (/lnovo/ l-NOH-voh, Chinese: ) is a Chinese-American multinational technology corporation that designs, manufactures, and markets consumer electronics, personal computers, software, business solutions, and associated services. Desktop computers, laptops, tablet computers, smartphones, workstations, servers, supercomputers, electronic storage devices, IT management software, and smart televisions are among the company’s products. IBM’s ThinkPad business laptop line, the IdeaPad, Yoga, and Legion consumer laptop lines, and the IdeaCentre and ThinkCentre desktop computer lines are among its most well-known trademarks. Lenovo is the world’s largest personal computer company by unit sales as of January 2021.
A team of engineers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched Lenovo as Legend on November 1, 1984 in Beijing. Initially focusing on televisions, the firm shifted its focus to computer production and distribution. Lenovo rose to become China’s market leader, raising roughly $30 million in an initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Lenovo has expanded from the personal computer industry and made a number of corporate acquisitions throughout the 1990s, the most noteworthy of which was purchasing and merging much of IBM’s personal computer and x86-based server businesses, as well as developing its own smartphone.
